The bunny room was packed with 55 students not including our volunteers and others visiting. We decided the second week of midterms would be a great time to start up Bunny Meditation and relaxation again. Students from far and near came through the doors not knowing what to expect. A castle, so many bunnies, people they did not know, everyone close together, packed in like snuggled bunnies but it worked.
It was a cool Autumn day in Minnesota, maybe one of those last great days before winter arrives. Students were able to prioritize time to Pet Away their Worry and Stress. It was a good day but of course a day full of hard times, deadlines, to do lists and feeling isolated. We try so hard to help but we are powerless to this world of striving young adults. All we can do is show up for them.
The vision was in place. No longer just a dream but created into a safe place, an escape. It was time for a mindfulness exercise and the room followed the Meditation leader. Pens and index cards were passed out and students were asked to write down what they are grateful for.
Its a simple exercise this Bunny Meditation, yet so deeply powerful. The heart shaped box was passed from student to student and everyone put their gratitude inside. We began with a big stretch, and a deep breath, another stretch up towards the ceiling and the release of the breath as we moved our arms down to rest hands on laps. Then a body scan. Close your eyes we said, "follow us on this journey together."
Not a sound was heard as we finished and asked the participants to lay down on the floor and open their eyes to the delight of the rabbits enjoying playtime on their castle. It was peaceful, it was calm, it was quiet and it was enchanting. It was a place to just be, to leave the race on the college campus aside and just show up and be present. Mindfulness practice is just that simple. Its beautiful and it matters.

Today was an amazing day. Teddy Graham and his bestie Paisley went to Target Photo to shoot an advertisement for the cover of a spring sale circular. Paisley was just there to be a bestie but Teddy Graham was there to be a star. It was such a fun day for all three of us!
When we arrived we were taken into the "Green Room" which was not green at all. It was beautifully decorated with posh interior and a large flat screen TV hanging on the wall. The staff had Sesame Street playing for the two little girls who would be waiting their turns in this room. We waited for a bit then made our way into the photographic studio where we found crisp white walls, big camera equipment, racks of Target children's clothing, little bunny shoes, hair accessories, a make-up artist, a clothing specialist, someone steaming clothes, bunny ears on staff heads, the art director, the manager, the computer person, the child wrangler and the photographer. It was amazing to see the effort that goes into advertising. I am sure the child wrangler is exhausted tonight!
Teddy Graham's job was to sit on a little girl's lap who smiled and pet him. (I can't share the product till it comes out this spring.) He was amazing at it! Next to him was the animal talent agent and me supporting him. He spent more times in breaks eating with Paisley in their little corner of the room than actually working but don't tell anyone cause we want everyone to think he is a hard working bunny! It was just way more fun than anything and every single team member and the two sweet little girls were so very kind to Teddy Graham, Paisley and me.
When I think about all the wonderful adventures that therapy rabbits can go on in our community, this was truly one of the coolest. Too, it helps us to earn some funds to keep us able to do our work. All the money we earned will go directly towards the care and health of our therapy rabbit team. Thank you to Target Photo and Animal Talent Pool for this amazing opportunity today. We hope to get welcomed back for another "hopportunity" in the future!
